Why we are here
On June 24, 2026, two powerful earthquakes (magnitude 7.2 and 7.5) struck Venezuela, hitting La Guaira and Caracas the hardest. The damage has been devastating, and thousands of people now need medical care for broken bones and injuries.
The maker community answered the call. 🙌
How this started
This whole effort grew out of an incredible act of generosity from two Venezuelan 3D printing teams:
Together they decided to share the design files for medical splints (férulas) so that any maker can reproduce them from home and get them into the hands of the people who need them most in Venezuela.

In that same video, Norbec Peña from the Ostec3d team talked about making the files openly available to the maker community. This is a beautiful initiative, and we will always be grateful to them. 💚

A note on "termoformado" (thermoforming)
The technique behind these splints is called termoformado (thermoforming): the printed part is gently heated and then shaped and fitted directly onto the patient where it is needed. The medical team handles this final step.

Por qué estamos aquí
El 24 de junio de 2026, dos fuertes terremotos (magnitud 7.2 y 7.5) sacudieron a Venezuela, golpeando con más fuerza a La Guaira y Caracas. El daño ha sido devastador, y hoy miles de personas necesitan atención médica por fracturas y lesiones.
La comunidad maker respondió al llamado. 🙌
Cómo comenzó esto
Todo este esfuerzo nació de un acto de generosidad increíble por parte de dos equipos venezolanos de impresión 3D:
Juntos decidieron compartir los archivos de diseño de las férulas médicas para que cualquier maker pueda reproducirlas desde casa y hacerlas llegar a quienes más las necesitan en Venezuela.

Sobre el "termoformado"
La técnica detrás de estas férulas se llama termoformado: la pieza impresa se calienta con cuidado y luego se moldea y se coloca directamente sobre el paciente donde se necesita. El equipo médico se encarga de este último paso.
